Mountain adventin the Salzburg´s Lungau

Outside, the snow has enchanted the magnificent mountain landscape of the Lungau. Inside, the warming fire crackles in the fireplace of the alpine hut. Glittering icicles hang from the roofs. Switch off from your everyday life and leave the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle behind you in the romantic atmosphere of the Salzburg Alpine World.

St. Michael Advent Market

On the Advent weekends, the Advent market of St. Michael directly in front of the doors of the Hotel & Restaurant Wastlwirt invites you to linger. Marvel at traditional handicrafts and enjoy typical regional products in a unique flair. A sufficient supporting programme with a Krampus run and Advent concerts rounds off the quiet time of the year.

Details can be found on the homepage of the Advent market St. Michael.

Katschberg Advent Trail

High up in the mountains, in the middle of untouched nature, the magic of Advent awaits you, far away from kitsch & commerce. With great excitement – bright red cheeks & palpitations of the heart, the Katschberg holiday region opened a two-kilometre long circular trail at 1,750 metres in November 2016.

Lovingly restored hay barn with atmospheric stations will carry you off into a very special Advent world. Let yourself be enchanted and immerse yourself in a very special mountain atmosphere. Bright children’s eyes peer out of the teddy bear workshop while instruments sound in the sound cabin, the blacksmith forges his works of art by the fire and the storyteller listens to the rough winter voice, only to find his very own peace in the hut of silence. At the same time, countless lanterns along the path conjure their light into the snow and create a feeling of pleasant warmth. We have also thought about the inner warmth, because in the hay houses and huts, free tea stations everywhere provide for a pleasant gut feeling.

Details can be found on the Katschberg Advent Trail homepage.

The song
“Silent night, holy night”

From 1815 to 1817 Joseph Mohr worked as co-adjutor in Mariapfarr and during this time he wrote the text of his world-famous Christmas carol “Silent Night, Holy Night”. In the historical rooms of the old vicarage next to the Basilica minor of Mariapfarr there is the parish and pilgrimage museum Mariapfarr with precious exhibits, a documentation about Joseph Mohr and a nativity scene with figures from the 18th century.

Opening hours Parish, Pilgrimage and Silent Night Museum Mariapfarr:
Tuesday and Thursday 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
